Sometimes referred to as the upper Marina, the photo above presents the original Phase 1 towers of the Dubai Marina (right of center) joined by newer towers still under construction. Phase 3 will have these towers joined by others up to double the height of those pictured--ranging from 66 to 100+ floors. Expected completion date, early 2009.

This is the Dubai Marina! (See enlarged image.)

Dubai Marina will be a mosty residential and holiday-let district with numerous boutique-style shopping and dining outlets to complement the marine or waterside theme which will epitomize Dubai Marina living. The man-made canal at its heart constricts and expands like a stream of water allowed to flow naturally over a flat surface. The promenade which rings the Marina canal will be the focal point of the community, offering pleasant walks and panoramic views of the skyline.

At present about 1/3 of the roughly 200 towers that will ring the canal are either built or under-construction. Only one of eventually three berthing zones is set up at present. The densly posited Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) towers fill a large swath along the Arabian (or Persian) Gulf coast.

Any info on original photo sources appreciated.
